Book love.

I have had an overwhelming love of reading this month. Most especially novels by Julia Quinn. Yeah, they're romance novels. I adore them. Bite me.
I've joined another book club in addition to the one I'm already in, that is going to read primarily chick lit and romance novels. Why? Because we love them!! It was [info]pinkplasticlove 's idea, but I am so pysched about it. If anyone lives in MN and is interested in joining, let me know! We would love to have you!

I can't decide, though, whether or not to go to B&N and buy the first book for the club, and I guess all the books for book club. I am torn between wanting to own books, loving to buy them, and my frugality (is that a word?) which tells me "You work in a library! Just order them there!" But on the other hand, I really really like owning books. I want to have a huge collection some day. /whimpers Oh the choices.

I just picked up Fairest by Gail Carson Levine, in addition to everything I need to read for various book clubs and classes. Haven't read anything by her since Ella Enchanted, way back in junior high.

Off to read more Nancy Drew! (For class. Blech.) Love!

The lady said no.

I have such a big headache right now, but the school store is closed which means I can't go up and get a Coke and chocolate. (Headache remedies. Seriously.) Or, you know, Tylonol.  Only an hour left of work, so when I'm done I might try and convince the parentals to get me some.

I'm headed home after this to go meet my new dog, Gus!! From the pictures I've been receiving all afternoon, he looks like quite a cute dog. ^_^ My other plan for this weekend is to read. A lot. I still have to finish Paper Towns by John Green for my book club on Monday. (I'm half way through though! Fear not!)

And I should probably finish Rainbow's End by Vernor Vinge before my dad kills me for never reading it. It's a good book! It's just... not fluffy. And I like fluffy. Especially when I'm not feeling good and just want a hug.
After that, I can crack into the many piles of books I've got sitting on my desk. Horray for reading!!

Also: the St Kate's library (or actually more like me and Kate) are already gearing up for banned books week! Which is next month at the end of the month. We're thinking of getting buttons, but we need 8 more people. They're like $1.50-$2.00 a piece. Any interest?
FIGHT EVIL! READ BOOKS!

love, me.

UPDATE: I was set to have a date with a guy I'd met on OK Cupid, but apparently he just found someone else. Fuck. Back to square one. FML.

UPDATE #2: This website and the wifey's texts are cheering me up considerably!

book reviews + my pseudo birthday

Since Mikal is leaving April 24th, and my birthday is not until May 13th, we are going out tonight to this steak place for dinner. They serve Root Beer there. Import it from the states. Along with Mountain Dew. Anyway, it should be good. After this, I won't spend ANY MONEY. I tried to get cheap groceries today, didn't get very many, and my total still came to just under 30 euro. Crap.

Now to the books I read during my London trip:

book reviews. )

Ok, must get ready for dinner!! Love.

Leaving on a jet plane...

I leave for London tomorrow! And I'm terrified. More on the "holy shit, what if I miss my flight?!?" and also once I get there, I have to take a bus, and two trains in order to reach Kate. Alone. At night. In a strange city I have only been to once a long time ago. SCARY!!

On the plus side, I paid a good chunk of money to have my hair colored and highlighted, so now it looks totally awesome. Still brown, with slightly lighter highlights. Yum. Totally worth it.
cut for rants, worries, and general length )

I keep glancing out the window and seeing the night as ominous. So even though I should get out, I am going to stay in and work on my novel. Call it a gut feeling. Plus the dark clouds are just tearing across the sky. Creepy.
Okay. I will stop ranting now. This entry has been much longer than I expected.
WHOAH. I looked outside and the remaining light in the sky just disappeared. Now I'm definitely staying in.
I love you all!
Send good luck thoughts to me tomorrow! I'm going to need them.

wanted: book suggestions

I have finally finished all (well, most)of the books I have to read for my seminar class. And I finished the two Sword of Truth books Matt graciously let me borrow. Which means I am out of books to read!
So: Your mission, should you choose to accept it...

Give me a book recommendation.
I am in the mood for:
-something cute/fluffy/romantic
-fantasy or sci fi is always good
-i am definitely NOT above chit-lit. bring it on
-no major character death/sad endings please. happy stuff only.

Recommend away!!

The coldest morning of my life.

This morning, I woke up at 3:45 am, walked to campus, and was standing in line outside the quad by 5 am. And for what? To get into an English seminar.
Registration didn't start until 9. I waited for 4 hours in the cold. And it was REALLY cold. I wasn't prepared at all for the cold. Nearly froze my legs off in the process. Couldn't sit down, because the concrete was too cold and my butt was freezing.
I didn't make it into the Jane Austen seminar. Nor did I Make it into the Children's Lit seminar (which were my top two choices.)

I made it into a Modern Irish Literature course with a focus on the Fiction of Violence. So it sounds really cool! But I was still a bit bummed that I waited in line for that long and didn't get the Austen one. Curses.
It was by and far the most unorganized registration process I have ever seen. You fail, NUIG English department!! You faiiiiiiil.

Came back, took a nap, had to DRAG myself out of bed to go back to school to my Modernism/Postmodernism lit course (Heart of Darkness! Woot!) and then Mikal and I went grocery shopping. And we got TONS of groceries. We're set for a while at least.

Right now, I am sitting on my bed, reading Ransom My Heart by Meg Cabot (and Mia Thermopolis) in PDF form, but I should really be reading Lolita, because it's due next week. Screw you, school reading. You're dumb.

The film society is showing Chinatown tonight, but I might just stay in with my warm covers and my good book and read. We'll see.
Miss you!

"Why don't we just do it in the road?"

I started the British miniseries Dead Set about the zombies that take over the Big Brother studio. Its freaky, and really gross, but also rather hilarious because its reality TV getting attacked by zombies. These are really fast, crazy zombies like in 28 days later. RUN AWAY!

And now, new Harry Potter pics, and my comment
Photobucket
Harry and Ginny running around in their PJs in a cornfield. Why don't I remember this scene? I actually don't remember the cornfield at all. Except in the trailer, something is also burning in it. Odd.

THEY ARE TOTALLY ALMOST HOLDING HANDS!! SQUEEEE!

Must curb desire to read Half Blood Prince again!! I still need to finish Lamb: The Gospel According to Christ's Chilldhood Friend Biff  and all the books Lacey let me borrow.
Also, I'm wearing my smexy red dress to work tomorrow!! Woot!

in a perpetual state of fangirl.

Tonight, I will start reading New Moon, I promise.
Up on the reading queue after this:

-Eclipse
-Artemis Fowl: The Opal Deception
-Artemis Fowl: The Lost Colony
-World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie Apocalypse
-An Abundance of Katherines

Belinda is also letting me borrow her BSG season 2.5, so I can continue the awesomeness that is Battlestar.
All this talk of midnight premieres has me really missing Harry Potter. :( I know the movie is coming up, and I am incredibly excited for it. Still, its so far away! We better do something fun for this guys. I'm thinking midnight in costumes, as usual.
Also, Kate, I think you should come. Just because I like you.
If all we get from Harry and Ginny is a hug, I very well may have to storm Warner Brothers. Its bad enough there are rumors floating around that the movies aren't going to expand the Tonks/Lupin relationship...

In the library, we have all the HP books in LC order, which puts them out of the order they are supposed to be read in. Today, I secretly arranged them by year, the way they are supposed to be. LC can bite me.

An hour and a half left to go. I can totally do this.

P.S. ZOMG!! They are making more Dr. Horrible!!!
P.P.S. They're releasing the Half Blood Prince teaser trailer on Tuesday!!
